Haverhill Clubhouse helps people who want to return to work or
school.  Haverhill Clubhouse assists members with their
educational endeavors ranging from GED to college.   All
clubhouses offer a variety of employment opportunities for its
members, based on their needs and interests.

Transitional Employment
The first is Transitional Employment (TE).  TE jobs are part
time entry level jobs that are held by the clubhouse and offer the
most support to the members.  Members who wish to work these
jobs do so for a six to nine month period and are trained by
clubhouse staff who know the job.  Staff also coach through any
difficulties, provide on the job support, and cover any absences
for the member in order to keep the position secure.  Through
this, the ability to maintain work and manage life and the
symptoms of mental illness is built.  TE also builds their
confidence, skills, and work history for resumes and job
applications.
There are many benefits to employers who work with Haverhill
Clubhouse's Transitional Employment Program.  These include:
  • Zero absenteeism.  The staff who work as placement
managers cover any absences at no cost to the employer.
  • Tax benefits. Hiring many of our members qualifies
employers to Work Opportunity Tax Credits.
  • Excellent Public Relations.  Many of our employers have
received positive press and been recognized at the State
House in Boston for their partnership with Haverhill
    Clubhouse.
  • All training is done by our staff.  This frees the employer
to attend to the rest of the company business.

Supported Employment
When a member has successfully completed one or more TE
jobs and feel they are ready for less support, Supported
Employment (SE) is offered and encouraged.  Supported
Employment is a job where  the member had help or
connections from the clubhouse to obtain the job.  The staff
person who helped make it happen will then act as the member’s
support staff.  Support staff then creates a relationship with the
employer in order to provide on the job support visits and to
have the ability to act as a liaison in times of difficulty.  There is
no time limit on SE jobs and they tend to be more career
oriented.

Independent Employment
Independent Employment is a job obtained and kept by the
member.  They may get support at the clubhouse as they feel
they need it.  Our monthly Employment Dinners are an
especially good way for our Independent workers to both get and
give support to and from other working members in the
clubhouse.  During these dinners, the sharing of updates,
struggles, and successes happen over a lovely meal within their
clubhouse community.

Work Opportunity Tax Credit
The WOTC is a federally funded program which reduces the
federal tax liabilities of private, for profit employers who hire
new employees from "targeted" groups.  All Haverhill
Clubhouse members qualify under one or more of the WOTC
targeted groups, making this federal tax credit available to you.
Any further details on this opportunity you can contact anyone
in our CGO (Communtiy Growth & Opportunities) Unit.

Supported Education
Haverhill Clubhouse has a long standing relationship with
Northern Essex Community College and the college's Supported
Education Department.  Supported Education is an
individualized instruction and support program which assists
persons who have psychiatric disabilities to obtain educational
goals.  Services at NECC and Haverhill Clubhouse include
assistance with entry into college, recommending
accommodations, such as providing a note taker, extended times
for tests or testing locations for your tests.  The clubhouse has
software that assists people who are studying for their GED, and
provides resources for members pursuing certificate programs
such as phlebotomy and CNA.
